Abigail O’Neill is, amongst many things, an Australian ‘mature model’ success story! Recently signed to Silverfox MGMT, Sydney, she commutes regularly from her enchanting hinterland home near Byron Bay to the city, being in demand for many of Australia’s top brands such as Myer, Marie Claire, David Jones, Bonds, Mecca, Harris Scarfe, Kevin Murphy, Spell, Trilogy, Artisan, The Iconic, and many more. Abigail, 46, is considered to possess vivacious positivity, professionalism and flexibility, and her favourite thing on and off set is making sure everyone is happy.
Mother to three now grown up children, Abigail is ageless in her inspiration to many. As a person who has lived the ‘organic lifestyle’ for over 30 years, she is considered to have been one of the original pioneers of the now trendy cult of healthy living, natural beauty, and Earth aligned wellbeing. Her flawless skin, enviable bikini body and adventurous vitality show the results. “When the children were young” she says “we baked bread together, sprouted wheatgrass, grew fruit and vege’s, climed trees, and even homeschooled for a while. As they grew up we surfed a lot and lept from waterfalls in the midnight light of the full moon. I’d bring a thermos filled with hot cacao, and the boys would light a fire. It was truly magical.”
Abigail is also the entrepreneurial self published Author of her overnight bestseller – Model Chocolate. The ‘superfood-meets-fashion’ recipe book has been featured in Vogue Australia, alongside countless magazines and websites worldwide. “The Chocolate Models Eat”, as it’s satiating recipes are mostly raw, refined sugar free, dairy free, gluten free and real cacao based for maximum health and beauty benefits.
Abigail says, “By far the question I am asked most these days is how I have maintained my youthful looks. People see me with my now grown up children (26, 24, and 21) and on occasion have considered me to be their older sibling! Flattering though it sounds some will say that’s just down to good genes, and that’s a point, but the truth is that from here to 100 literally everything you do shows, via your skin or your figure! I’ve dedicated myself to leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle and it has paid off and continues to do so.” She says, “I’m still eating my raw, beauty enhancing chocolate everyday, but there’s a whole lot more to my rituals than just that! In the interest of combatting all the negativity about growing older and the pressure to go under the knife, or get procedures like Botox, I want to share my alternatives and let women of all ages know that it’s ok to age naturally and there’s things that you can do to help you on that journey, which will not only keep you looking young, but leave you feeling younger and full of life.”
Some of Abigail’s Insta-worthy #AbisBeautyBible tips include daily hydrotherapy, an abundance of DIY beauty treatments, and even seasonal fasting. Steam baths, salt glows (a full body scrub) and a vegan/vegetarian (70% raw food diet) as the #AbiEatsInspo hashtag reveals, are things she has maintained for the last 30+ years. “I’ve been doing a lot of this almost all my life, but for those starting out now in their 20s and 30s or any age, it’s never too late. There’s plenty you can do to make yourself look and feel better because the body, given the right environment, is so incredibly powerful to restore itself! After years of experimenting with nutrient dense foods, water treatments, detoxification, natural oils, herbs and other alternative practices, I’ve got my simple nature-loving routines down to a fine art, as I have the art of ageing confidently. I like to say, it’s the little things you do day in and day out that add up to the fountain of your youth!
