Mmm CHOCANA-ROCHER = cacao, banana, and hazelnut flavours combined together to create a DELICIOUSLY rich and refreshing smoothie! It’s the raw cacao elixir that sustained Mel Carerro and I during a long day of shooting Tigerlily‘s beautiful new ‘Bikini Trail’ range – see all the pictures here. All refined sugar free, dairy free, gluten free and I added in some maca for it’s balancing and sustaining properties.
The recipe? Super easy, and I’d love to hear how it turns out for you at home! Firstly though, you need to have a delicious raw Hazelnut Mylk to use as the base for your smoothie. So here’s the way I make what I’ve called ‘HAZELICIOUS MYLK’…
1 1/2 cups hazelnuts
5- 6 cups water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Either 4 pitted Medjool dates or, even easier 2 tablespoons maple syrup
To make: Soak hazelnuts in 2 cups of water with dates (if using) for 2 – 4 hours, then, using a powerful blender, blend together until smooth. Now whiz altogether with remaining ingredients until superfine and milky! Strain through a nut milk bag and bottle in glass. Store in the fridge until ready to use in milkshakes, smoothies or anything you’d use regular milk in, bearing in mind that it will have a slight hazelnut flavour.
2 – 3 cups HAZELICIOUS MYLK
1 – 2 cups water
2 – 4 frozen bananas, depending on how thick/banana flavoured you’d like it to be
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
1 tablespoon maple syrup, or more
Extra cinnamon and vanilla to taste, optional, the Mylk does contain already
1 – 2 dessertspoons raw cacao nibs, optional but i love them!
1 teaspoon maca root, optional, a superfood, will alter flavour slightly
6 – 10 ICE cubes
WHIZ everything altogether until smooth and creamy! Adding in the ice last and blending again lightly will give some ice-crunch. Ready! Serves two.
